About Me

Louise Cardinale

Louise Cardinale, 98, entered eternity on April 8, 2020. She died from complications due to covid-19.

She was born in Newark, N.J., on March 4, 1922 to Aurelio and Anna Cardinale and had two siblings Vincent and Gloria. The family lived in Newark until 1965. Louise started her first job at the age of 18 at Macy’s (Previously Bambergers) in Newark. In 1942, she started work at Blue Cross Blue Shield, also in Newark, and was employed until her retirement in 1982. In 1965, the family moved to Livingston, N.J. Louise lived at this residence until she moved to Cranes Mills, West Caldwell, in 2014.

In the late 1940’s, Aurelio Cardinale, built a retreat house for his family in Seaside Heights. The house provided a welcome escape from the surroundings of everyday life. The family would go down mostly on weekends, and, for six decades, it became the focal point of innumerable family and friend gatherings, all focused on food, ocean and sun. The memories created at Seaside were some of the most wonderful treasures left behind for the rest of us.

During their work years, Louise travelled with her sister, Gloria, extensively. Together, they were able to tour 10 different countries. Louise and Gloria also enjoyed many shorter trips with their extended family (Vincent and Anna, his wife, and all the cousins) to Villa Nova in New York, In 2005, the sisters went on a tour to Italy with the grand-nephews and nieces: they not only enjoyed this trip immensely but left behind some wonderful memories as well.  In their senior years, the sisters frequented Atlantic City often with the AARP group and the St. Raphael’s Senior group in Livingston.

Louise was an excellent cook. Her signature dishes included Pizza Rustica, pignoli cookies, and she became the primary assistant to her elderly mother every Sunday in making fresh raviolis for the family. Every family gathering was loving, welcoming, and every detail was carefully planned. Louise was also an extraordinary artist and won many local awards for her paintings.

Above all her interests, travels, accomplishments, Louise was a most warm and loving aunt, she loved her family and was, in turn, very much loved by all of us. She passed into eternity but she will never be forgotten. Louise is survived by her nephews, Chris (Ana), Vincent (Cheryl), her grand-nephew, Michael (Steph), her grand-niece, Megan, her grand-niece, Melissa (Nick), her grand-niece, Maria (Pat), and her grand-nephew, John (Erin). She is also survived by her beautiful great grand-nephew, Joshua, and grand-niece, Carmela.

Funeral services will not be available at this time. A Memorial Mass will be planned, depending availability, in the near future. Interment will be at Gate of Heaven Cemetary in East Hanover.

After a long and blessed life, Louise is now reunited with all those who were closest to her in this life: her parents, her siblings, and the love of her life, Fred Di Pasquale. Her relationship with “Freddie” lasted for 70 years and though they never married in this life, we hope they will be together for all eternity.

The Lord took Louise home that the promises He made to those who believe in Him would be fulfilled:

“Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in Me. My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am..” (John 14: 1-3)
